Neighborhood Paintings – Day 3

Back Alley Tree, Mar. 24, 2017, watercolour on paper, 11 x 14

It was a work day for me so I didn’t get home until suppertime. I had grand plans to do a sunset painting as soon as I got home, but I forgot that sunset is much later now; and it turned out it was overcast with dull grey skies when I got home anyway. So I decided to paint the giant tree across the back alley–another view I’ve sketched and painted a few times before. I thought if I only did the top of the tree and left out the houses and fence it would be “simpler”. And it was, somewhat, but that tree is never simple.
